Latest Facial Plastic Surgery Trends Show Dramatic Increase
Thinking about facial plastic surgery or plastic surgery in general? A recent report by the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (AAFPRS) shows that you are certainly not alone.
The latest AAFPRS statistics highlight a 45 percent increase in the number of procedures preformed over the last two years, with a 16 percent increase in non-surgical procedures.
Gender and Age Differences in Facial Plastic Surgery
A large majority of surgical and non-surgical procedures in 2010 were performed on women (83 percent), with women under 35 selecting less invasive procedures such as Botox injections.
For women under 35 who did select surgical procedures, rhinoplasty was the most common procedure performed (84 percent).
For men, Botox, hyaluronic acid injections, rhinoplasty, and hair transplants were the most common procedures performed.
Ethnicity Trends in Facial Plastic Surgery
Forty percent of facial plastic surgeons reported an increase in the number of Asian American, Caucasian, and Hispanic patients in they consulted with in 2010.
Relative to procedures selected, Asian Americans typically opted for blepharoplasty or rhinoplasty, African Americans and Hispanics chose rhinoplasty, while Caucasians favored rhinoplasty and facelifts.
Overall, plastic surgeons felt that patients were more educated about their procedures and that most of their plastic surgery information was collected through friends.
Importantly, the AAFPRS advises that patients seeking facial plastic surgery seek qualified, trained, and experienced facial plastic surgeons.
