NY Plastic Surgery: Good Looks Pay Business Dividends
It’s that dirty little secret that everyone “knows” is true but no one wants to admit.Good looking people get preferential treatment in the business world. In this era of political correctness, you won’t find anyone who will admit that a pretty face or handsome mug gives you an edge when applying for a job or vying for a promotion, but it does.
According to University of Texas economist Daniel Hamermesh, beautiful people earn $230,000 more over the length of their careers than their average-looking coworkers.
Hamermesh’s new book, Beauty Pays: Why Attractive People Are More Successful, approaches the correlation between beauty and success from an economic standpoint. Hamermesh found that handsome men earn an average 17% more than men with below-average looks. Men actually profited more from having an attractive appearance than women. Beautiful women earn only 12% more than their unattractive co-workers, although that 12% still represents a healthy income jump.
While Hamermesh found that beauty did not overwhelm job performance when job or promotion decisions were made, it did make a noticeable difference in the application phase. Beauty gave applicants an undeniable edge. Because we are all attracted to beauty, an attractive face predisposes people to look more favorably on a beautiful person. Beauty may not get you the job, but it is likely to get you the interview. In today’s ultra-competitive business world, just getting your foot in the door is a tremendous advantage. Unfortunately, many unattractive people never get the opportunity to show an employer or a customer or a manager what they can do.
Only 2% to 3% of men and women are considered strikingly handsome or beautiful, according to Hamermesh. That means that most of us could stand a little tweaking to boost our beauty coefficient. If your appearance is holding you back, New York facial plastic surgery can improve your appearance and help you get to the career boost you need.
